I was on a roll. Writing daily, collating a weekly Substack post. Then we went to Norway.
After a day’s travelling, we arrived in an industrial city called Drammen. Along the route I’d seen lots of typical Norwegian woods full of tall pine trees. Dotted about were a few houses and Amish-looking barns. Red with white details. We stayed in the Scandic Ambassadeur hotel where the rooms were average (although the under floor heating in the bathroom was a big plus) but the sumptuous buffet breakfast could have fed several football teams.
We’d been up since 05:00 so, after a quick dinner in the hotel restaurant, we went to bed. Up again the next day at 5, we were at the venue bright and early to set up. It was our 6th wedding anniversary - after a full on day of Chris woodturning, we had a meal at Alpen Haus that evening. We dined on Cordon Bleu schnitzel with Gruyère cheese and ham, served with pan-fried potatoes and chilli butter, followed by Cognac for Chris and Alpenhaus chocolate cake with fresh cherries, berries, raspberry sorbet and chocolate sauce for me.
The next day we had a lie in - until 6 a.m. Another full day of demonstrating and then a meal with all the staff, demonstrators and helpers to celebrate the business’ 20th Anniversary. As we said our goodbyes, everyone applauded us. That was a first.
While we saw very little of Norway, we had a fantastic time with wonderful people.
But I wrote nothing! I did record daily Voicenotes and logged a few memories in Twos. But my logs are incomplete. My planned Trip Report (inspired by Stephen Wolfram) has yet to materialise. My daily Obsidian notes lapsed.
Over a week later, I’m full of a cold. Plans for this week have stalled. I’ve still not caught up on any writing.
It’s a frustration as I’m chomping at the bit. Life is changing, my now or never philosophy is kicking me in the seat of the pants.
This lull in activity has been a revelation. I realised how exhausted I’d become. Days were passing in a blur, and merging into the next. This wasn’t how I wanted my life to be.
A new chapter is being written. A very different chapter!
